Global Community - Care and Resources

resourcing internationally mobile people

Living in a foreign country has a significant impact, both positive and negative, on families and individuals. This is particularly true for children who grow up for a significant part of their developmental years in a culture other than their parents’ culture.

Mountainview is developing resources and programs towards caring for, and meeting the needs of, third-culture kids (TCK’s)and internationally mobile individuals and families. (See below for a definition of TCK's)

Other resources; particularly helpful articles about (and by people who have experienced) cultural transition can be found at Interaction International’s website: www.tckinteract.net

Definition of Third-Culture Kid:
"An individual who, having spent a significant part of the developmental years in a culture other than the parents' culture, develops a sense of relationship to all of the cultures while not having full ownership in any. Elements from each culture are incorporated into the life experience, but the sense of belonging is in relationship to others of similar experience." --David Pollock, Interaction Director
