The Parenting Course
becoming better parents
The Parenting Course is designed to offer parents an opportunity to learn and develop valuable parenting skills. The course is not about therapy but rather offers you a safe and structured setting to explore and practice skills that may be beneficial to your parenting. The course cannot make you “perfect parents”, but we hope by the end of the course you find yourself “better” and “more confident” as parents.
Mountainview uses materials developed by the Family Caring Trust whose resources have become the most popular parenting materials in Britain and Ireland – used by more than half a million parents and endorsed by Educational Authorities, the Social Services and the Health Services. Alongside the group session’s each person works through a participants manual (10 € / each). This requires a minimal amount of reading and completing some straightforward exercises.
The course has seven basic sessions, with an optional 8th session about spiritual development in children. Each session is highly interactive. The topics covered are as follows:
Session # 1 Introduction
Session # 2 Behaviour You Don’t Like
Session # 3 Encouraging Your Child
Session # 4 Listening Means Paying Attention
Session # 5 Talking With Your Child
Session # 6 Discipline
Session # 7 Quality Time
Session # 8 Your Child’s Spiritual Development (optional)
Apart from the cost of the manual (10 €) and perhaps contributing towards the cost of childcare, the course is offered by Mountainview without cost.
Currently Mountainview only offers the course, “From Pram to Primary School” (parenting small children from birth to age six or seven). We hope in the future to offer other courses relevant to older children and teens, and perhaps one day the courses in Spanish.

What Parents Say:
It made me think about how to pay more attention to my child. Clare
It is a good opportunity to reflect on parenting and to enjoy the fellowship of other parents…I feel better prepared to have more children and for when my child is older. It taught me that a few minutes of positive attention can ward off hours of misbehaviour…The skills taught in the book can change your life. Jennifer
